Spiritual Counsel

Many of God’s people start off energized by the Good News but over time become tired, disappointed, and disconnected. Why is that?

Are you missing the fundamentals?

We know that one of the missing fundamentals is rest. God speaks clearly about this in Isaiah 30:15:

“In repentance and rest you will be saved,
In quietness and trust is your strength.
But you were not willing." (NASB)

Here is another translation:

“Your salvation requires you to turn back to me
and stop your silly efforts to save yourselves.
Your strength will come from settling down
   in complete dependence on me—
The very thing
you’ve been unwilling to do." (MSG)

Repentance and rest go hand in hand - but repentance must be understood by its original meaning. In the New Testament the greek word is Metanoia.  It does not mean “a remorseful penitent review of sins”. It means “a transformative change of the mind/heart designed and empowered by the Spirit of God.”

So what exactly is this mind/heart change that needs to happen?  It’s an acceptance of your position in the Kingdom of God.  In the kingdom you have identity: you are not an orphan but a true child of God with all the rights, privileges, and honors that come with your identity.  In the kingdom you have position. And that position is assured by proclamation not by behavior.  "By grace you are saved not of works."

In the kingdom we rest in this good news brought to us by the sacrifice of the Son. The good news is built upon the love of the Father and that love heals our heart. A healed heart loves freely.
